infosex.exchange <3

You are probably looking for the infosec.exchange Mastodon instance

This host is mostly for my random stuff, and in little part acts like a well-intentioned placeholder for the typosquatted domain.

Discoverability and Archiving

Currently I'm using this host for saving the items from my own feeds to the Wayback Machine and provide in-links for search engines. I hate that I have to do this, but the non-sense ideology of Mastodon pretty much ruined the search feature for Fediverse as a whole, and this wasn't changed by the fact that they owned their mistake and implemented search eventually.

Yes, I (or anyone else) could do similar things with other peoples published feeds, regardless of the tantrum. No, you can't defederate this, because the process doesn't rely on an instance.

Gluttony Section for Search Engines

@qqmrichter Both are about Vice's reporting.

@schaffenburg It does work but I don't dare to operate it too long considering the heating. (I may also be overreacting, because the IC is supposed to have thermal protection and it haven't triggered yet, but I'm still curious about the process)

@GrahamCampbell Thanks, such easy initial tests seem like a good way to start out! What would be your conclusions if 1) or 3) came back positive?

@joxean That's not the case fortunately AFAIK. McAfee did die though...

@joxean Vice, the magazine "died" as in closed shop.

@Tecci Can you recommend some resource to read up on that?

To commemorate its death, here are some of my favorite pieces of journalism from Vice:

@swapgs @attackerkb I don't see any opportunity to report the user on Rapid7's side unfortunately, but downvoted his posts for good measure...

Any tips/resources about finding the cause of suspicious heating of the amplifier IC in a simple audio amplifier circuit?

I can give specifics but I'm more interested in the process of how one would start out with such a problem.

I see more and more people getting angry about interactions with strangers on Fedi.

A wise man once said that social media is like writing on the wall of a public toilet. I honestly believe in the power of writing, but a toilet wall is just not the right medium for a whole bunch of things people want to write about. Yet they are used, because everything is a nail if we have a hammer I guess.

Personal homepages, blogs without comment sections still exist though, and work by definition as one-way communication channels. Hell, on Fedi you can have your followers-only private restroom too!

(Public) social networks are built so you can get feedback from random strangers, this is their power. If this is not what you want, there are alternatives.
