infosex.exchange <3

You are probably looking for the infosec.exchange Mastodon instance

This host is mostly for my random stuff, and in little part acts like a well-intentioned placeholder for the typosquatted domain.

Discoverability and Archiving

Currently I'm using this host for saving the items from my own feeds to the Wayback Machine and provide in-links for search engines. I hate that I have to do this, but the non-sense ideology of Mastodon pretty much ruined the search feature for Fediverse as a whole, and this wasn't changed by the fact that they owned their mistake and implemented search eventually.

Yes, I (or anyone else) could do similar things with other peoples published feeds, regardless of the tantrum. No, you can't defederate this, because the process doesn't rely on an instance.

Gluttony Section for Search Engines

@wdormann FTR facebook allows this by design, with UI support...

While all previous translations were objectively shit (my errata in Hungarian about What If? is here: https://gist.github.com/v-p-b/32acda745cf3bfc4713c0d9144e60ce6 ), it's a new low that the Hungarian publisher even managed to mistranslate the subheading of XKCD's How To?:

https://www.libri.hu/konyv/Hogyan-Komoly-tudomanyos-valaszok-nagyon-komoly-hetkoznapi-kerdesekre-6.html

The original is "Absurd Scientific Advice for Common Real-World Problems", while the translated version says "Serious Scientific Advice". The two words are not even related in Hungarian.

@sassdawe IIRC there's been an initiative to create a CA similar to Let's Encrypt. I'm pretty sure that would result in (well deserved) havoc for most security solutions.

@joxean These numbers always remind me of a joke (actually I think it was part of a novel):

The village has "elections", where every citizen gets a ball. They put their fists in bowls for each candidate, and silently drop the ball for the desired one.

The Secretary for The Party comes to supervise the counting. There are similar amounts of balls in each bowl, so he just pours all the balls of the opposition candidate to the one for The Party. He says: "I see the people chose wisely once again!".

Then he grabs some balls and puts them back to the opposition bowl, and says: "Yet, there are still some reactionary elements to investigate!".

@devcoffee Selection/survival bias ("the technique always works in environments where it's the best technique"?) must have a role, good point!

But sticking with your example, having an other family of OS's in the dataset would easily explain the difference to the lab. Today I struggled with a Windows hardening, that seems to be the default, and Win10 should be Win10... Of course MS may roll out hardenings gradually, but somehow it's always like this no matter if I try to exploit an OS privesc or a webapp injection in my own lab (I'm also paranoid I guess :D).
